במהלך ערב ראש השנה התלקח דיון סוער סביב שולחן החג:
בטיסה לארה"ב , האם יש הבדל במשך הטיסה בין הלוך וחזור ומהי הסיבה לכך?
האם סיבוב כדור הארץ משחק כאן תפקיד, או שמא משטר הרוחות בגובה שבו טסים המטוסים? בתודה מראש איתי

Only enough fuel is added to make the trip plus a reserve. To fill the tanks completely for each flight would waste fuel, as the added weight would cause excessive fuel usage. Generally, due to prevailing winds, Eastbound flights are shorter and require less fuel than Westbound flights.

The changes are much more pronounced, following an eastbound flight, and typical symptoms include tiredness during the day and reduced performance. When crossing time zones of over eight hours on an eastbound flight, a person''s internal clock can adjust backwards where the day is perceived as being shorter or forward where the time difference is correspondingly greater, depending on the individual.

The eastbound flight will be appreciably shorter than the existing round-the-world service in a westerly direction. Thanks to favourable tailwinds, the MD-11F freighter will touch down at home-base again only 59 hours after beginning its odyssey in Frankfurt. The westbound flight takes a total 66 hours.
